Wii and DSi to get new colors in Japan

Away from the focus of E3 Nintendo have made a couple of games hardware announcements in its home territory of Japan. The first is that the Wii is finally going to get its first color update with the console being made available in Black.

The machine, the stand, Wii Remote ($40), Nunchuk ($19), and the Classic Controller Pro ($21) will all be made available in the new color and should be available to buy from the beginning of August. There is no word on whether the black version will be heading West, but we can always hope.

The DSi is also getting a color update a little earlier on July 11th . You’ll be able to get it in bright red, but once again, only in Japan for now.

I think I’d prefer a black version of the Wii as my current bright white one just looks out of place under my black TV next to the black PS3, black Xbox, and black DVD player.

If we do see it in the U.S. and Europe I doubt it will be before the end of year holiday period when they really want to push sales up. But then Nintendo may be struggling with stock shortages again.
